What the Test Actually Involves
A licensed plumber isolates your drain system at the cleanout, sets a plug in the line, and fills the system with water to a fixed level. Then everyone waits and watches that level. The test answers one question: does the system hold water, or does it lose it.
Nothing is excavated to run the test itself. It is a diagnostic, and it is deliberately simple, which is why it is trusted. A system that holds its water level has no meaningful break. A system that loses water has one, and the test tells you that before anyone starts guessing.
